The DIFC Lighthouse Tower was a proposed 402-meter (1,319 feet) skyscraper intended to be a landmark within Dubai's International Financial Centre (DIFC). Designed by the architectural firm Atkins, the 64-story building was planned to offer approximately 90,000 square meters of premium office space.
A notable feature of the design was its commitment to sustainability. The tower aimed to reduce total energy consumption by up to 55% and water usage by up to 50%, striving to achieve LEED Platinum certification. To accomplish these goals, the design incorporated three 29-meter diameter wind turbines on the south-facing façade and 4,000 photovoltaic panels to harness renewable energy.
The tower's structural design featured two separate cores connected by steel mega-braces, creating a distinctive silhouette. The building was set to include sky gardens and a leisure deck with health club facilities, enhancing its appeal to occupants.
Construction was scheduled to commence in October 2008, with an expected completion in June 2011. However, due to the global financial crisis, the project was put on hold in 2009 and ultimately canceled in 2013.
